Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki Project (Location: Kita-ku, Osaka City, CEO: Shigeru Oshima) will hold an experiential event, "Serendipity of Travel: Harvest Seasonal Fruits & Create Original Danish Pastries with Ukihwa Local Navigators," for guests staying at Fairfield by Marriott Fukuoka Ukihwa on August 30, 2026 (Sun). This project is a series of events that deliver the unique charms of the region as an "experience" with the theme of Ukihwa City's seasonal fruits. For the first installment, we have prepared a special program that allows you to enjoy everything from harvesting to tasting, featuring Kyoho grapes, known as the "King of Fruits."
Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki Project operates 29 limited-service hotels nationwide and advocates a travel style of "exploring the unknown charms of the region" with hotels as bases. The project's concept is "Quest the Unknown Japan," aiming for guests to experience the unique aspects of each region and discover lesser-known attractions across the country.
Ukihwa City in Fukuoka Prefecture is widely known as a leading fruit-producing region, boasting ideal natural conditions for fruit cultivation, including significant temperature differences between day and night, abundant sunshine, well-draining soil, and clean water resources. These environmental factors enhance the sugar content and flavor of the fruits, nurturing high-quality produce such as grapes, pears, and persimmons. The fruits grown amidst the serene landscape at the foot of the Mimino Mountains captivate many with their taste and beauty. Additionally, "Michi-no-Eki Ukihwa," adjacent to the hotel, is a spot where visitors can easily feel the charm of "Ukihwa, the Fruit Kingdom," with fresh fruits available seasonally and bustling with locals and tourists.
This event allows participants to see, touch, taste, and experience the charms of Ukihwa. At Nakajima Farm, participants will harvest Kyoho grapes at their peak ripeness with their own hands, while learning about the producer's dedication and passion for cultivation. Experiencing the harvest firsthand deepens understanding of the background and value of how fruits are grown, enriching the way one perceives their taste. Afterward, at "Kawasemi Danish," participants will try their hand at making original Danish pastries using the harvested Kyoho grapes. Learning how to maximize the fruit's flavor while creating a unique pastry will become a special travel memory. A tea time will also be provided to enjoy the crisp texture of the Danish pastries, highlighting the freshness of the fruit, allowing for a relaxing interlude.
This initiative is linked to the travel podcast program "Serendipity of Travel," which began airing in March 2026. With the concept that "chance encounters and discoveries enrich travel," the program deeply introduces regional people, culture, and attractions. The first episode featured Ms. Mayu Kuji, the owner of Kawasemi Danish, as a guest. In this event, Ms. Kuji will participate as a local navigator, guiding guests through the charms of Ukihwa. A key feature of this event is the opportunity to experience the stories and sentiments shared in the podcast through actual locations and activities. Listening to the podcast beforehand will further deepen understanding and discovery.
