The Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki Project (Location: Oyodo-naka, Kita-ku, Osaka; Chief Operating Officer: Shigeru Oshima) will hold a vegetable seedling planting and pizza-making experience event on Sunday, May 24, 2026, in collaboration with 'wataya farm,' an organic farm in Yabu City, Hyogo Prefecture. This is an exclusive event for guests staying at Fairfield by Marriott Hyogo Tajima Yabu on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki Project operates 29 limited-service hotels nationwide and advocates a travel style of 'journeying through the unknown charms of a region' with the hotels as a base. Under the concept 'Quest for the Unknown Japan,' this project aims for guests to experience unique regional activities and discover the unknown charms of Japan. This farm experience event was also planned for guests to experience the charm of Yabu City, Hyogo Prefecture.
Yabu City, Hyogo Prefecture, is located in the center of the Tajima region in the northern part of the prefecture and is blessed with rich nature, including Mt. Hyono, the highest peak in the prefecture, and Tendaki Falls, selected as one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls. Taking advantage of its clear water and mineral-rich soil, agriculture has flourished here since ancient times. Wataya farm, which practices organic farming in Yabu City, has its fields at the foot of the mountain range centered on Mt. Hyono, cultivating about 100 types of vegetables and wheat in its clear water and mineral-rich soil.
This event, now in its 7th iteration due to popular demand, consists of two experiences.
The first is a farming experience of planting vegetable seedlings and sowing seeds. Since spring is the growing season for crops, the focus is on 'planting' rather than 'harvesting.' Through planting seedlings and sowing seeds for the summer, participants can experience how the vegetables that usually appear on their dining tables begin to grow while getting their hands in the soil. A partial harvesting experience is also available. Furthermore, participants can take home seedlings like basil and arugula that can be grown in their home kitchens, connecting the experience to their daily lives along with the travel memories.
The second is a pizza-making experience. Participants stretch their own dough made from wheat harvested at wataya farm and freely top it with local Yabu ingredients before baking it in a kiln. The structure allows for an experience from 'planting' to 'eating' all in one day. After baking, there will be a tasting session for all participants. The time spent eating pizza you made yourself under the blue sky is a special moment for both adults and children.
Even without knowledge or experience in farming, a wide range of generations from adults to children can enjoy it together, and even those living in cities with no connection to fields can feel free to participate. Encountering the 'before' stage of vegetables lined up in the supermarket, sowing seeds with your own hands, and tasting the freshly picked bounty on the spot. The warmth of the soil, the power of sprouting, and the fragrant aroma rising from a freshly baked pizza, which cannot be conveyed through textbooks or television, will remain in the heart as individual experiences and become unforgettable memories. Please try adding a day of experiencing the story that connects the farm to the table, which cannot be tasted just by visiting tourist spots, to your travel schedule. Surely, the scenery you see on your way home and the daily dining table will feel a little different than before.
