To accelerate the expansion of Taiwanese startups in the Japanese market, Taiwan Startup Terrace, guided by the Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, hereinafter referred to as Taiwan MOEA), led 15 Taiwanese startup companies to participate in SusHi Tech 2026, Asia's largest global innovation conference held in Tokyo. Furthermore, today (April 28), two important MOUs were signed, strengthening innovation cooperation and industrial collaboration between Japan and Taiwan.

SusHi Tech is a major event in Japan's tech startup ecosystem, bringing together startups, corporate partners, and investment institutions from around the world. The Taiwan MOEA delegation focused on AI, smart cities, and innovation application fields, showcasing Taiwan's technological capabilities through exhibitions, promoting business matching and local partnership opportunities, and actively supporting Taiwanese companies in entering the Japanese market.

Taiwan Startup Terrace is Taiwan's representative international startup hub, connecting government resources, corporate partners, and global markets for many years to support startups in their international expansion. This time, they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TSUCREA, which has a track record of national incubation hubs and startup support in Japan. Both parties jointly held "Global Startups Pitch" in 2023, further promoting exchanges between startup companies from both countries. The signing of this MOU symbolizes the further strengthening of cooperative relations, and they will continue to jointly build an "Innovation Highway" for Japan-Taiwan startups, bridging resources between startups from both sides and accelerating mutual local market entry.

In addition to promoting cooperation between startup support organizations in both countries, businesses on both sides are also achieving concrete results, further promoting technology integration and market expansion. Among them, Taiwan's Turing Drive (台灣智慧駕駛) is a representative team actively fostered by Taiwan Startup Terrace, specializing in autonomous driving technology in specific fields and possessing advanced AI algorithm technology. On the other hand, MACNICA, a leading Japanese semiconductor and high-tech solutions company, has been developing automotive chips, AI computing platforms, and channels in the automotive industry for many years, possessing complete system integration and market introduction capabilities. Going forward, both parties will combine their strengths to accelerate the commercialization of autonomous driving technology and its introduction into various settings, thereby realizing a development model of technological complementarity and co-creation of value between Japan and Taiwan.

The signing of these two MOUs symbolizes the step-up of Japan-Taiwan startups from the exchange stage to substantial local market entry, and also highlighted that Japan is already one of the important markets for Taiwanese startups' international expansion. Taiwan Startup Terrace has been promoting cooperation and local expansion of Japan-Taiwan startups for many years, supporting over 50 business matching events and the creation of potential business opportunities, with its activities expanding from Tokyo to Kumamoto, Fukuoka, Kobe, and other regions. It is steadily building a cross-regional innovation network. By combining Taiwan's strengths in AI and software technology with Japan's foundation in hardware manufacturing and industrial applications, both sides are accelerating cooperation in fields such as smart mobility and smart cities, and continuously enhancing the driving force for growth towards commercialization.

This time, the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs, in cooperation with the national startup brand "Startup Island TAIWAN" promoted by the National Development Council and ecosystem partners, jointly set up a Taiwan Pavilion at SusHi Tech 2026. This not only demonstrated Taiwan's innovation energy but also strengthened Taiwan's solid position in the global innovation landscape. In the future, they will continue to promote cross-ministerial resource collaboration and further accelerate the international market expansion of Taiwanese companies, starting with Japan-Taiwan exchanges.
