The hotel is being built on the former site of 'KING∞XMHU' (hereinafter 'Kingmu'), a symbolic dance club in Susukino. Designed around the concept of inheriting land and memory, the hotel features unique elements such as spaces incorporating original interior materials and interactive art installations that allow guests to engage with the site's history.

Development Background

Opened in 1991, Kingmu was deeply loved by the local community as a multifunctional disco and dance club symbolizing the bubble-era culture. With its massive face-like exterior resembling ancient ruins and interior themed around ancient Mexican motifs, it exuded a unique presence. Although it closed in May 2023, it remains a place of deep emotional significance for many locals.

With the recent surge in inbound tourism, the Susukino area has seen increasing competition among hotels. To establish a unique positioning beyond mere differentiation, Escon has undertaken efforts to inherit Kingmu's memories and playful spirit.

To authentically preserve the club's original design and presence, the hotel reuses interior materials from the site. Rather than presenting Kingmu's history as a mere visual exhibit, the hotel offers an immersive experience where guests can physically interact with the space, aiming to become a one-of-a-kind destination.

The hotel is conveniently located just a 6-minute walk from 'Susukino' Station on the Namboku Subway Line and a 3-minute walk from the 'Higashi Honganji-mae' bus stop. Design

The interior design concept of the hotel is 'SUSUKINO - MIX,' skillfully blending the three distinct eras this location has experienced into a single cohesive space.

First is the timeless 'Sapporo Dawn Era' with modern Japanese aesthetics, featuring steam radiators and lattice-style windows. Second is the 'Sapporo Pioneer Era,' evoking the region's natural landscape using local materials like Sapporo tuff stone. Third is 'Kingmu's History,' expressed through the careful reuse of symbolic elements such as eagle sculptures, ancient Mexican-themed objects, and relic-like panels. Together, these three layers create a unique space that exudes a pleasantly dissonant and eclectic charm unlike any other.

Adjacent to the entrance, which invites guests into a narrative journey, stands a mysterious 'Porch Object'—a monument appearing to collapse, revealing glimpses of Kingmu's iconic façade. Additionally, on the first-floor elevator hall, an interactive 'stone tablet' that lights up when touched, along with historical photographs, is displayed to convey Kingmu's history and playful spirit through an immersive storytelling experience.

The hotel features a total of 125 rooms, with approximately 90% designed as spacious accommodations suitable for groups of 4 to 5 guests. To ensure long-stay visitors—both inbound tourists and domestic groups—can relax as if at home, all rooms are equipped with kitchens, spacious unit baths, and washing machines.
