The General Incorporated Association Earth Day Japan Network (Minato-ku, Tokyo) and Certified NPO Environmental Relations Institute (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Director: Atsuko Suzuki) announced the concept for the reforestation project 'Forest of Earth Day' today, April 4, 2026, at the Earth Day Forum 2026.
Earth Day began in the United States in 1970 and has become a global environmental movement with over 1 billion participants in 192 countries. However, challenges surrounding the global environment, such as climate change and the biodiversity crisis, are becoming increasingly serious.
In this context, 'Forest of Earth Day' was conceived as an initiative to connect environmental philosophy with concrete action.
This project utilizes the framework of 'Present Tree,' a citizen participation project that has been advancing forest restoration across Japan for over 20 years, to create a space where people who sympathize with the philosophy of Earth Day can participate in building future forests.
Present Tree has been developed across Japan as a project that fosters relationships between communities and people while restoring forests through collaboration between corporations, local governments, and citizens. 'Forest of Earth Day' positions this practice as a symbolic initiative of Earth Day. People participating in Earth Day will plant trees and nurture forests for the future of the Earth. The concept is for 'Forest of Earth Day' to be nurtured within the Present Tree forests across Japan as a symbol of this effort.
Through this concept, the Earth Day Japan Network and Present Tree will propose new forms of participation that connect the philosophy of environmental conservation activities with concrete actions.
