Achieving Utilization of Effectively Renewable Energy and Local Production for Local Consumption of Environmental Value in the Kawasaki Coastal Area (Kawasaki Port)!

Kawasaki City is promoting integrated initiatives for industry and ports to achieve carbon neutrality in its coastal area, advancing the Kawasaki Carbon Neutral Kombinat (CNK) concept and the formation of a Carbon Neutral Port (CNP).

(Headquarters: Saiwai-ku, Kawasaki; President: Jun Ida), Kawasaki Rinko Soko Futo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kawasaki-ku, Kawasaki; Chairman: Tetsuya Takahashi), and Kureha Environment Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Iwaki-shi, Fukushima; President: Masahiro Namikawa) have successfully introduced effectively renewable energy and achieved local production for local consumption of environmental value in the Kawasaki coastal area (Kawasaki Port) as part of the initiatives related to CNK and CNP promoted by Kawasaki City.

1. Project Overview

To promote the local production for local consumption of environmental value using effectively renewable energy, this project supplies effectively renewable energy utilizing the environmental value derived from Kureha Environment's Westech Kanagawa, located in Chidori-cho, Kawasaki-ku, to 'Kawasaki Rinko Soko Futo,' also located in Chidori-cho, Kawasaki-ku, thereby realizing the 'local production for local consumption' of environmental value. The electricity supply began on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

2. Project Features

(1) Achieving Carbon Neutrality by Utilizing 100% Environmental Value from the Kawasaki Coastal Area

The effectively renewable energy supplied by ENET to Kawasaki Rinko Soko Futo secures its environmental value by procuring electricity generated by Kureha Environment's Westech Kanagawa through the incineration of industrial waste, along with the associated non-FIT non-fossil certificates (with renewable energy designation). Kawasaki Rinko Soko Futo achieves carbon neutrality for the electricity used in its buildings and warehouses by utilizing 100% of the environmental value created in the Kawasaki coastal area.

(2) Collaboration among Businesses

Kureha Environment, which was exploring local utilization of its generated renewable energy, and ENET, which procures that electricity and environmental value, collaborated with Kawasaki Mirai Energy, a promoter of regional energy platforms and renewable energy use expansion. By proposing this to the actively carbon-neutral Kawasaki Rinko Soko Futo, they realized the local production for local consumption of environmental value through the use of effectively renewable energy in the Kawasaki coastal area (Kawasaki Port).

Notably, Kawasaki Rinko Soko Futo is actively promoting carbon-neutral initiatives, such as receiving the nation's first CNP certification (for a container terminal) from the government for the Kawasaki Port Container Terminal it manages.
