Today, at the ENEOS Head Office in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President Atsushi Yamaguchi delivered a message to new employees. The details are as follows.
Congratulations on joining ENEOS. This is the first step for the 366 of you who will carry the future of ENEOS. We are very happy to welcome you.
【Philosophy】
First, I will talk about the 'ENEOS Group Philosophy,' as it is of utmost importance.
"Harnessing the Earth’s power for the benefit of society and the lives of people. Through creation and innovation in energy, resources, and materials, we contribute to the development of society and the creation of a vibrant future."
By working at ENEOS, you are now in a position to contribute to the world, and your responsibility to society will be greater than during your student days. Please keep this philosophy in your heart, and whenever you feel uncertain, return to it and act accordingly.
【ENEOS Initiatives for the Long-Term Vision】
Currently, we face great uncertainty due to rising international tensions, particularly in the Middle East. With the resolve to 'support the standard of today and lead the standard of tomorrow,' ENEOS has consistently handled everything from crude oil procurement to refining, logistics, and sales. Our mission is to protect a safe and stable energy supply, especially now.
Next, regarding our business strategy to balance 'stable energy/material supply' and the 'realization of a carbon-neutral society':
First, we must strengthen our 'domestic core business.' Improving refinery utilization rates is crucial. We will achieve this by people properly maintaining and operating equipment to reduce trouble. In sales, we will strengthen our Service Station (SS) network and provide new value through digital marketing using the ENEOS app.
To acquire 'new profit opportunities,' global expansion is key. We will expand our overseas fuel business through asset acquisition and trading. For low-carbon/decarbonized business, we will focus on biofuels for aviation and maritime use, and further expand into synthetic fuels and chemicals from bio-resources.
I expect you to think for yourselves what you need to learn to contribute to these goals as soon as possible.
【What I Want You to Value】
I have three points for you to value. First is 'Safety.' In May last year, a hydrogen sulfide gas leak at our Sakai Refinery resulted in the death of one employee and injuries to several others. This was an accident that should never have happened. We have thoroughly verified the cause and implemented measures to prevent recurrence. Safety depends on the actions of every individual on-site. Please always act with an awareness that 'it might be dangerous' rather than assuming 'it should be fine.'
Second is the '3 Rules for Working with Peace of Mind': 1. Do you respect the other person? 2. Are you listening to the other person? 3. Are you saying what needs to be said? Communication only works when both sides listen and speak clearly. Please practice these in your daily actions.
Third is the 'Three Realities Principle' (Sangen-shugi): Actual place (Genba), Actual thing (Genbutsu), and Actual facts (Genjitsu). When faced with difficulties, do not look for who to blame. Accurately capture what is happening by visiting the site and seeing things with your own eyes. This applies not just to manufacturing but to management and R&D as well.
【Conclusion】
Let's create the future of ENEOS together to build a vibrant future for society. I look forward to your growth. Once again, congratulations. Stay safe!
