Miyagi Prefecture, ENEOS Corporation (hereinafter referred to as ENEOS), Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (hereinafter referred to as SMBC), and Yoshikawa Oil Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Yoshikawa Oil) are pleased to announce that, starting April 1, 2026, they will jointly implement a demonstration project (hereinafter referred to as the Project) for the collection and recycling of household used cooking oil. The project will utilize locations such as supermarkets, large-scale condominiums (residential areas), and SMBC's Sendai branch within Miyagi Prefecture as collection points.

The objective of this Project is to contribute to the formation of a sustainable circular economy. Household used cooking oil generated by general households will be collected at designated collection points established in municipalities within Miyagi Prefecture. The collected oil will then be processed for recycling, with the aim of utilizing it in the production of biofuels, including SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).

Used cooking oil is a valuable resource that can be utilized as a raw material for SAF and biodiesel fuel. However, currently, approximately 100,000 tons of household used cooking oil are generated annually in Japan, and the vast majority of it is disposed of as burnable waste without being recycled.

Through this Project, the four parties will promote the effective utilization of household used cooking oil as an unused resource by collaborating with various companies within Miyagi Prefecture, thereby contributing to resource circulation within the prefecture. In the future, ENEOS aims to produce SAF using the collected oil as a raw material.

Moving forward, the four parties will continue to cooperate, aiming to expand the number of participating companies and collection stores, and to establish a resource circulation model for household used cooking oil.
