Artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, starting from their personal experiences and social realities, will bring to light the values and norms we unconsciously accept in our daily lives, as well as the structures of invisible oppression. Against the backdrop of feminism and social relationships, by re-examining sensations we believed to be natural through different societies and perspectives, we realize they are by no means universal.
In this exhibition 'Fault Lines', sensations that are not easily put into words—such as pain, discomfort, silence, and resistance—are presented through diverse media including painting, sculpture, video, and performance. Although their methods of expression and backgrounds differ, their practices reflect the tensions and fluctuations that exist between the individual and society, as if multiple fault lines intersect.
We all live with sensations we certainly feel in our daily lives but cannot articulate. This exhibition is an attempt to quietly visualize those ambiguous and hard-to-see sensations through artworks.
In addition to the opening event on July 10, a cross-talk and performances featuring Aya Momose are planned for the 11th. We look forward to your participation.
