Elecom Launches Two New USB Fingerprint Authentication Readers Compatible with Windows Hello

Elecom Co., Ltd. will launch USB fingerprint authentication readers in early June 2026, allowing one-touch login via Windows Hello even on PCs without built-in fingerprint sensors. Customers can choose between two types: a USB dongle type, which can be left plugged into a laptop, and a wired USB type, which is convenient for desktop computers.

With the recent rise in unauthorized access and information leaks due to password theft, biometric and multi-factor authentication are increasingly important for superior security. While Windows PCs support face and fingerprint authentication through Windows Hello, some models lack standard cameras or fingerprint sensors compatible with these features.

By using this Microsoft-certified product, which supports Windows Hello and the latest "MoC method," users can reduce risks related to password loss or theft, minimize the hassle of manual input and management, and enhance the safety of their PC usage.

High-Security MoC (Match-on-Chip) Authentication
The device employs the MoC method, where fingerprint information read by the sensor is encrypted within the device before being sent to the PC. Since raw fingerprint data is never transmitted to the computer, it prevents unauthorized third-party access.

Windows Hello Support with Microsoft Certification
The product uses an IC chip certified by Microsoft and meets the company's security specifications. Simply connecting it to a PC running Windows 11/10 enables immediate use of Windows Hello fingerprint authentication.

It achieves a stress-free login environment with high accuracy: a false acceptance rate of less than 0.001% and a false rejection rate of less than 1.7%. The sensor reads fingerprints accurately from any 360-degree angle for instant authentication.

Up to 10 fingerprints can be registered, allowing for flexible operation, such as sharing a PC among multiple users or using different fingers for different purposes.

Two Types to Suit Your Usage Environment
The USB dongle type is compact and convenient for transport, designed to remain plugged into a laptop without being obtrusive. The wired, standalone USB type allows for authentication in a convenient location. It can be fixed to steel desks or cabinets using the strong magnet on the bottom, or to wooden shelves using the included mounting parts.
