Domestic IoT Smart Trash Can "Reebo" Debuts Outdoor Model, Full-Scale Implementation in Outdoor Commercial Spaces

Elcom Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido; Representative Director: Takao Soma) has delivered and installed the outdoor-compatible model of its self-developed and manufactured IoT smart trash can 'Reebo' at the 'MIO Garden Terrace' inside 'Tennoji MIO', a commercial facility directly connected to JR Tennoji Station operated by JR West SC Development Company (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Osaka, Osaka).

This product marks the first deployment of our outdoor-compatible model. This implementation is an advanced initiative that elevates waste management through Japan-originated smart compression technology and data utilization, serving as a model case for next-generation facility operations that balance reducing environmental impact with operational efficiency.

■ The "Outdoor Trash Problem" Emerging Behind Increased Bustle

MIO Garden Terrace is a bustling space that blends food experiences where visitors can enjoy "freshly made, freshly bought" items, with local "good products" promoted through POP UPs and kitchen cars. On the other hand, in highly attractive outdoor spaces, managing the collection burden and maintaining the landscape due to increased trash had become a challenge.

Since July 2023, our company has repeatedly test-installed the IoT smart trash can "Reebo" at 'LUCUA Osaka', a station-type commercial facility directly connected to Osaka Station operated by JR West SC Development. Leveraging the strengths unique to a domestic manufacturer, we have improved the specifications to be optimized for Japanese facility spaces. In 2025, four units were formally introduced, receiving high praise for their effectiveness in streamlining collection tasks and preventing trash overflow.

Based on this track record, we developed an outdoor-compatible model, installing three units at 'Tennoji MIO' and launching our expansion into outdoor spaces.
