With this launch, UGUIS.AI now supports learning for both writing and speaking.

This feature is designed to align with the question formats for the Eiken® Pre-1st Grade, 2nd Grade, Pre-2nd Grade, and 3rd Grade speaking tests. It provides a learning environment where users can complete AI-powered instant scoring and feedback, as well as practice tests simulating the Eiken® S-CBT format, all within a single service.

Background of Development

English education is shifting towards emphasizing the ability to actually use the language. In speaking practice, in particular, learners often face challenges with self-study, finding it difficult to confirm the accuracy of their pronunciation or whether their intended message is being conveyed to the listener, leading to stalled progress. For instructors, providing individual feedback to each student requires significant time and effort, posing a considerable burden.

Our group has accumulated expertise over many years in large-scale scoring operations, such as the National Achievement and Learning Survey, from the era of paper-based tests. This includes designing scoring criteria, organizing evaluation perspectives, and ensuring scoring quality. By combining this foundation of educational measurement technology (testing) with AI technology, we aimed to achieve feedback that is not only convincing for learners but also practical for instructors, going beyond simple automated responses or AI-based corrections. This led to the development of "UGUIS.AI".

"UGUIS.AI" has been utilized by many learners and instructors as an AI writing learning service. We have now officially launched the speaking practice feature, which has been available in beta since October 2025, supporting the question formats for Eiken® Pre-1st Grade, 2nd Grade, Pre-2nd Grade, and 3rd Grade.

The UGUIS.AI Eiken® Speaking practice feature is a learning function that allows users to complete Eiken® secondary test preparation online. By combining AI-powered instant scoring and feedback, practice on a simulated screen mimicking the Eiken® S-CBT format, and personalized instruction from the AI chatbot "UGUIS Sensei", it enables practical training for each learner's Eiken® success while reducing the burden on instructors.

"Listen and Imitate" Learning Cycle and Personalized Instruction from "UGUIS Sensei"

In speaking practice, listening back to one's own speech is essential for identifying and improving points related to clarity, such as pronunciation and intonation. By recording and replaying their own audio and comparing it with model audio, learners are provided with a mechanism to easily identify areas for improvement. Additionally, the AI chatbot function "UGUIS Sensei" allows users to freely ask questions about correction results or response content in a chat format, supporting the acquisition of more understandable speaking skills.
