The "Earth Day" movement, which began in the United States in 1970, is the world's largest global environmental movement, with approximately 500 million people participating in 175 countries. Earth Day Tokyo 2026 will be held for two days on Saturday, April 18th, and Sunday, April 19th, at Yoyogi Park Event Plaza and Keyaki Namiki. Admission is free.
This year, approximately 300 booths by civic groups and companies will exhibit at the venue. Furthermore, the venue's electricity will be supplied 100% by renewable energy, utilizing portable power sources, solar panels, and biodiesel fuel generation. Along with live music and talk sessions featuring diverse guests, "Six Actions" will be developed towards a sustainable future.
■ Main Features and Initiatives of Earth Day Tokyo 2026
Approximately 300 Exhibitor Booths, Including About 50 Student Organizations
Yoyogi Park, the venue, will host approximately 300 booths related to environmental protection, international cooperation, organic food, and ethical goods. In the "Youth Area," about 50 schools and student organizations will line up, providing visitors with opportunities to learn about and experience the global environment through shopping at the ethical market "Minna Shoten" (Everyone's Shop) and various workshops.
Event Operation with 100% Renewable Energy
Portable power sources from Jackery Japan Inc. will supply electricity to stages and various booths, while solar panels from Green People's Power Inc. will cover the electricity for the inclusive area. Furthermore, a kitchen car project utilizing portable power sources from EcoFlow Technology Japan Inc. is planned, allowing visitors to experience scenes of renewable energy utilization.
In addition, on the day of the event, electricity will be generated using biodiesel fuel derived from waste cooking oil collected through calls by students of Jiyu no Mori Gakuen, operated in cooperation with Workers' Co-op Agri-in, ensuring that 100% of the event's electricity is covered by renewable energy.
"Six Actions" Towards a Sustainable Future
Throughout the event, projects will be developed under the following six themes:
① Inclusive Action
With the theme of creating a space where everyone can participate with peace of mind, we aim to realize an environment where anyone can spend time, regardless of age, disability, or background. Centered around the "Inclusive Play Park" where diverse people interact, we will offer woodworking activities with play cars and set up blue sheets and thick mats for free resting. We will also provide care tents (universal sheets), nursing rooms/diaper changing stations, and a "Mogumogu Stand" (food texture processing corner) for those with difficulty chewing or swallowing, creating an environment where everyone can enjoy with peace of mind. Various workshops, such as making accessories from stage costume scraps and Zen meditation experiences, will also be held.
② Youth Action
Approximately 50 student organizations and educational institutions will gather, with the next generation proactively communicating the future. In addition to proposals and expressions on the Youth Stage, initiatives such as the "GX Youth Lab" for calculating and proposing event CO2 emissions will be developed. Young people will be involved throughout the event, including main visual production and finale direction by Jiyu no Mori Gakuen.
③ Peace Action
Art projects that transform weapons into flowers and destruction into prayer, and a candle night using the lingering flames of the atomic bomb will be held. Furthermore, through live music and talk sessions expressing wishes for peace, and booth exhibitions by humanitarian aid and international cooperation organizations, a space will be created to transcend divisions and foster empathy.
④ Multicultural Coexistence and Exchange Action
As a place where people with diverse backgrounds interact, participatory projects will be developed to "experience others' perspectives." In addition to the "A mile in My Shoes" experience program by Brave hearts, the new project "Earth Day Tours in Borneo" will be unveiled, providing an opportunity to experience global connections.
⑤ Energy Action
As mentioned above, through the collaboration of multiple companies and organizations, the electricity within the venue, from the stages to each booth and the inclusive area, will be operated with 100% renewable energy.
⑥ Good Deed Action
This is a visitor-participation project in collaboration with UPDATER (Minna Denryoku), based on the concept of "Small good deeds change the future." "Virtue" points are awarded for small good actions for people, the environment, and society, such as bringing your own bag or tableware, bringing in waste cooking oil, or donating blood. Accumulated points will not decrease and will be stored as a history of good deeds. Furthermore, small rewards are prepared for good deeds at the venue. Also, a commemorative event for the launch of "Shodai Tiger Mask Denki" and the first appearance of "Minna Shoten" are planned.
