Kinokuniya Announces 'Summer Gyokuro Tea Workshop' at Choushinjo Kinokuniya Kyo-machiya

Tsuchi Planning Co., Ltd. (Taisen Karaki) and Kinokuniya Co., Ltd. will host a Summer Gyokuro Tea Workshop on June 23, 2026, at 'Choushinjo Kinokuniya Kyo-machiya' in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto. Following the spring cherry blossom tea party, this second workshop focuses on the 'Reisen' experience. 'Reisen' is a method of brewing Japanese tea on the rocks using plenty of ice, which enhances the natural umami and sweetness of Gyokuro. Unlike brewing with hot water, this low-temperature extraction reduces bitterness, resulting in a mellow, refined flavor. The workshop will teach how to brew Gyokuro with ice, including tips for perfection that guests can replicate at home. After a demonstration by the instructor, participants will brew the tea themselves, to be enjoyed with sweets.
