What is KAKEJIKUYA? We at KAKEJIKUYA hold the dream of 'connecting the story of mounting culture to the future—calming the world's hearts with Kakejiku, and connecting the world with the silence of Wa.' Inheriting the techniques of 'Kyokando,' a Kakejiku specialty store founded in 1937, we have produced various scrolls for individual clients, exhibitions, and art for TV dramas and movies. A Quiet Change: We have felt a certain change in recent years. Customers from all over the world are now visiting KAKEJIKUYA in search of Kakejiku. From the US, France, Spain, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Georgia, Romania, Jordan, Israel, Iran, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Iceland, Russia, Germany, Canada, and Cyprus—people of different cultures, religions, and values are seeking us out. It is not just an interest in Japanese culture, but because there is 'something' there that calms people's hearts across nationalities. Why Kakejiku? Buddhism was born in India, systematized in China, and deepened in Japan in connection with daily life and aesthetics. Kakejiku is a culture nurtured in that flow. Now, its value is sought after by the world again. Zen and mindfulness are not just trends; they are being accepted by modern people living in busyness and information overload as something fundamental to 'how to live.' In a society where people are constantly chased, compared, and evaluated, they lose their sense of rhythm. That is why time for doing nothing, space with margins, and simply being quiet have become essential for returning to one's true self. Kakejiku does not assert itself strongly. However, by being there, it organizes the space and quietly returns the viewer's breathing and consciousness inward. We believe Kakejiku is not just a decoration to fill an empty wall, but something that gives meaning to a space and creates a place for people to return to themselves. 2025 Challenge: In 2025, we exhibited at the 'Interior Lifestyle' trade show for the first time. We received many inquiries from companies interested in our Kakejiku using Washi printing technology and modern designs. A common comment was, 'I was interested, but didn't know how or where to order.' Also, through pop-up shops on Meiji-dori, we witnessed many people who had never encountered Kakejiku stop, touch them, and imagine them in their own spaces. We realized that Kakejiku is not just for special spaces; it can be more free and part of daily life. Future Challenges: In 2026, KAKEJIKUYA will further concretize these efforts. Responding to the demand for 'Kakejiku that fits modern spaces,' we are developing modern products that harmonize with current Japanese interiors, to be announced at the 'Interior Lifestyle (34th)' in June 2026. We want to deliver the value of this culture not only to the world but also to modern Japan. Restoring 'silence' and 'margins' lost in busyness is about reclaiming the original Japanese sensibility. We have also revamped our online shop to allow direct purchases from around the world in English via Shopify, opened on April 1, 2026. Furthermore, we are renovating our Shibuya workshop to create a shop where you can feel the background and atmosphere of production. Connecting the World with the Silence of Wa: Kakejiku is already spreading beyond Japan. We want to expand this flow with intention. We believe world peace begins with the state of each individual's heart. We believe that the silence of Wa calms people, and that silence is passed on to others.
