e-dash Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Toma Yamazaki; hereinafter "the Company") has been appointed as the secretariat for the Ministry of the Environment's "FY2026 Model Project for Promoting Decarbonization Across the Value Chain," which aims to reduce GHG emissions across entire value chains.
Following this appointment, the Company is now accepting applications from companies and industry groups to participate in this project. The application period runs from Monday, May 18, 2026, to Monday, June 15, 2026.
Background and Project Overview
To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, reducing supply chain emissions (Scope 3) is essential in addition to reducing in-house emissions (Scope 1 and 2). To accomplish this, obtaining primary data from business partners and promoting emission reductions are critical. However, a challenge remains—particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)—as the necessity and specific methods for calculating emissions have not yet fully permeated.
Given this situation, the project aims to establish a unified framework for calculation and engagement to promote Scope 3 reductions through collaboration across the entire value chain (hereinafter "VC"). In addition to exploring new decarbonization measures that go beyond traditional energy-saving methods, the project will delve into the efficiency and automation of Scope 3 calculation and primary data collection utilizing digital technology.
The Company will leverage its extensive field understanding and specialized knowledge gained from numerous support track records to act as a bridge for all stakeholders involved in decarbonization, from large corporations to SMEs. By doing so, it aims to build an effective and sustainable decarbonization scheme that works in practice, not just in theory. Through these efforts, the Company will back Japanese companies in independently managing decarbonization and contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Implementation Details
This model project will recruit and support the following two initiatives:
(1) Individual VC Support
The project supports engagement efforts by applicant companies (representative companies) directed toward their business partners (constituent companies). It aims to resolve the "calculation burden on partners" and the "difficulty of primary data collection"—which are barriers to Scope 3 reduction—thereby smoothing engagement activities. As the secretariat, the Company will provide support ranging from the formulation of engagement policies to the examination of highly effective reduction measures. Where necessary, the Company will also provide its various cloud services as tools to support the creation of reproducible mechanisms through digital transformation (DX).
(2) Industry Group and Corporate Group Support
The project supports industry groups and leading corporate consortiums in considering the formulation of industry-common Scope 3 calculations, primary data collection rules, and engagement policies. It aims to eliminate inconsistencies in standards and the proliferation of calculation formats across different industries, driving efficiency in data linkage and independent action across entire sectors. As the secretariat, the Company will provide comprehensive support, from sorting out key issues based on industry-specific characteristics to systemizing the priority of emission factor selection, helping to formulate common rules that will continue to be utilized even after the project concludes.
Application Period
From Monday, May 18, 2026, to Monday, June 15, 2026, at 17:00. * For details regarding the project contents and application requirements, please refer to the Ministry of the Environment's press release. Ministry of the Environment Press Release URL: https://www.env.go.jp/press/press_04683.html
