CHEF de BEAUTÉ kyoto exterior

CHEF de BEAUTÉ kyoto is "a place to create your unknown, unique beauty."

Away from the city's hustle and bustle, in a quiet space, we offer an experience where you can tailor comfort for yourself, guided by textures and scents.

■ Background of the Kyoto Flagship Store Opening

Founded in 1885, Motani Juntendo has consistently addressed people's skin needs throughout different eras.

The CHEF de BEAUTÉ brand, born from this history, proposes skincare chosen "by one's own senses." We value the attitude of facing each individual's sensibilities and "listening to their skin" (hadakiki).

A chef is not someone who imposes a fixed recipe, but one who prepares a dish according to the day's condition, climate, and mood. Similarly, with skincare, we wanted to find comfort that truly suits one's current self – this desire took form in the Kyoto flagship store.

Located right next to the lively Nishiki Market, nestled in an alley, this quiet space allows one to focus on their own senses.

Here, you can carefully check each texture, scent, and sensation, and through dialogue, tailor comfort that truly suits your current self.

■ Store Space Philosophy: A Place to Return to Inner Calm with Earth, Light, and Fluctuation

The space of CHEF de BEAUTÉ kyoto was designed not merely to display products, but as a place for the mind and skin to unwind. Natural materials are used as much as possible throughout the store. Natural earth is used on the walls, mixed with small stones to create unevenness and shadows, giving it a texture that evokes the accumulation of time.

Customization counter blended with "Juraku soil," the highest quality earth

Particularly symbolic is the side of the counter where hand creams are customized. Here, soil with roots in "Juraku soil" (jurakutsuchi), produced around the ruins of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Jurakudai and said to have been used by Sen no Rikyu in his tea rooms, is blended. By intentionally leaving brush and sponge marks and giving all sides a rough texture, it embraces the unevenness and coarseness of the earth as it is, rather than "covering it up cleanly." The tranquility of "wabi-sabi," reminiscent of Kyoto's tea rooms, slowly emerges.

Graceful curves that affirm "fluctuation"

The curves seen throughout the space embody "comfort," the brand's keyword. Just as there are no straight lines in nature or the human body, gentle curves evoke the flow of water, wind, and cloud formations, relaxing the mind. The warm "fluctuation" like a hand-drawn line affirms "the beauty of change" and naturally invites visitors deeper and deeper into a profound experience.

Light that calms the breath and illumination that lights the inner self

The lighting was designed not merely to brighten the space, but as an entity to regulate breathing. It is inspired by light gently falling from the sky, like sunlight filtering through trees. It illuminates the earthen walls and stone floors with a soft gradation, creating a space where one can step away from the external hustle and bustle and listen to their inner calm.

The red and white lanterns at the storefront adopt "white" and "red," auspicious colors from ancient Japan. White represents 140 years of sincerity.
