About the "75th Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival"

The Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival is Kanazawa's representative early summer event, held to commemorate the great achievement of Lord Maeda Toshiie, the founder of the Kaga Domain, who entered Kanazawa Castle on June 14, Tensho 11 (1583) and laid the foundation of Kanazawa. The date June 14 is based on the "Oyama Shrine History."

The celebratory events, held as the Kanazawa City Festival from Taisho 12 (1923) to Showa 20 (1945) in conjunction with the Hōkoku Festival at Oyama Shrine, were rooted in the "Oyama Festival" held by the Oyama Shrine Supporters' Association for six years from Showa 21 (1946) under the guidance of the occupation forces after the war.

The current Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival began in Showa 27 (1952) as the first commercial and industrial festival organized primarily by Kanazawa City and the Kanazawa Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Since then, it has developed into its current form, where traditional events unique to Kanazawa, inherited over 400 years, including the gorgeous Hyakumangoku Parade, are lively unfolded. Since Showa 59 (1984, 33rd festival), when actors were first cast as Toshiie, the main character of the Hyakumangoku Parade, it has grown into a major early summer event that can be promoted nationwide. The 75th festival will be held from June 5 (Fri) to June 7 (Sun), 2026.
