Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo; President: Yoshinari Kitajima; hereinafter: DNP) will begin mass production of a "Display-Compatible Decorative Film"*1 for automotive interiors in April 2026. This film combines high-design aesthetics, such as wood grain patterns, with optical performance that allows images and icons to be displayed clearly on the display only when necessary.

DNP will launch the product first in the Chinese market as its initial step, with plans to expand to Europe, Japan, the US, South Korea, India, and other regions in the future.

[Background of Mass Production] Anticipating the future popularization of autonomous driving, car interiors are expected to become comfortable living spaces. As interest grows in utilizing the cabin as a living room or theater space, expanding beyond mere transportation, there is an increasing demand for the fusion of highly comfortable spatial design and the functionality required for automobiles.

Based on the needs of consumers and automakers, DNP developed the "Display-Compatible Decorative Film" in 2019 by combining its decorative film technologies cultivated in housing and automotive interiors with optical technologies developed in the display sector. Now, DNP is beginning mass production of this product, starting with the Chinese market.

[Features of the Mass-Produced "Display-Compatible Decorative Film"] 1. Achieves clear display of images and text The newly mass-produced "Display-Compatible Decorative Film" utilizes DNP's long-cultivated microfabrication technology to form a special light-transmitting layer. This allows light from the display to pass through directly, projecting images clearly without being affected by the decorative pattern. Furthermore, the decorative design layer and optical function layer are optimized to enhance the visibility of the displayed image, ensuring clear image projection under various environmental conditions, including interior lighting and external sunlight.

2. Unifies cabin design in combination with interior decorative films for mobility DNP provides a wide range of decorative films for automotive interiors. By combining these films, a unified design can be achieved not only around the display but throughout the entire cabin, contributing to the creation of a comfortable and attractive interior space.

3. Scratch and stain resistance meeting automaker quality requirements By protecting the panel surface with a topcoat layer formed using Electron Beam (EB) coating technology*2, which DNP has honed over many years in the manufacturing of housing materials, the film achieves scratch and stain resistance that meets the strict quality requirements of automakers.

[Future Outlook] DNP aims to generate cumulative sales of 5 billion yen by fiscal 2030 by deploying this "Display-Compatible Decorative Film" not only for automotive interiors but also for light-transmitting exterior parts, which are expected to grow, and in non-automotive sectors.

*2 EB (Electron Beam) Coating -> A technology that cures applied resin by irradiating it with electron beams. Compared to products coated with urethane or UV resins, it is more resistant to scratches, stains, and sunlight, ensuring high durability, practicality, and stable quality. It is an environmentally friendly technology that enables energy savings, CO2 emission reductions in the manufacturing process, and solvent-free coating.
