May 1, 2026 – DJI, a global leader in civilian drones and innovative camera technology, today announced the launch of a new service. In line with the revisions to the Civil Aeronautics Act enforcement regulations and related notifications, effective today, this service will enable owners of DJI drones manufactured before obtaining type certification to apply for individual aircraft certification after undergoing inspection and maintenance by DJI After-Sales Service. This allows them to apply for certification in the same manner as aircraft manufactured after type certification.
Details:
**Applicable Products**
DJI Mini 4 Pro units manufactured before obtaining Type II Type Certification.
This service applies to units that do not have the following sticker, indicating the Type Certificate Number (No. 6) and Type Name (DJI Type DJI Mini 4 Pro), affixed near the battery compartment on the underside of the aircraft.
Future DJI products manufactured before obtaining type certification will also be eligible.
**Service Start Date**
・May 1, 2026 (Today)
**Service Overview**
To obtain aircraft certification for applicable products, the 'Unmanned Aircraft Identity Certificate' and 'Unmanned Aircraft Conformity Certificate' issued by DJI are required (for other documents necessary for aircraft certification application, please refer to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's website).
If you wish to obtain these two documents, please first contact DJI JAPAN Co., Ltd. Customer Center. Following their guidance, send your aircraft and all accessories (including the remote controller) to the center.
The center will inspect the received aircraft and accessories to confirm that they were manufactured with the same design and manufacturing process as units shipped after type certification. DJI will then perform prescribed inspection and maintenance (if aircraft replacement occurs as a result of inspection and maintenance, the serial number will not change, as in conventional cases).
Once inspection and maintenance are complete, the aircraft and all accessories will be returned to the customer, along with the two aforementioned documents.
Please note that the 'Unmanned Aircraft Conformity Certificate' is only valid if issued within 30 days prior to the aircraft certification application (previously, there was no expiry date, but this revision introduced one). When utilizing this service, please consider this validity period when applying.
When applying for aircraft certification, please select the Japan Marine Association as the inspection body. While other inspection bodies can be chosen by regulation, we at DJI limit the application destination to the organization that conducted the type certification inspection for DJI drones (therefore, when applying for this service, we will issue the above two documents on the condition that you apply for aircraft certification with the said association).
The operation methods for aircraft after certification are the same as for aircraft manufactured and shipped after type certification. For details, please refer to the press release when the DJI Mini 4 Pro obtained Type II Type Certification and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's website regarding aircraft certification (URLs provided in the 'References' section below).
