Tourism Agency Launches Public Call for "Support Project for Town Development in Local Hot Spring Areas, etc. through Demolition and Regeneration of Abandoned Buildings" Special Site

Dive Group Co., Ltd. (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Kiyoshi Shoji, Securities Code: 151A, hereinafter referred to as Dive Group), which serves as the secretariat for the Tourism Agency's FY2026 "Support Project for Town Development in Local Hot Spring Areas, etc. through Demolition and Regeneration of Abandoned Buildings," has officially launched the special website for this project and begun accepting applications for the first phase of support (subsidies for area regeneration plan formulation, etc.).

In conjunction with this, the secretariat is accepting "preliminary consultations (free of charge)" on an ongoing basis.

Furthermore, an "online information session" explaining the project overview and application requirements will be held on Tuesday, July 7.

Applications for this project will be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis as they are received. The application period may close once the budget limit is reached.

Background and Objectives of This Project

In local hot spring and tourist areas in Japan, many large hotels and other facilities, once optimized for group travel needs during the period of high economic growth, have ceased operations due to the aging of owners and a lack of successors. These facilities are often left to deteriorate.

These abandoned buildings not only hinder tourist circulation and economic activity but also present complex barriers such as high demolition costs, intricate ownership structures, and the absence of successor businesses, making them difficult for private entities to resolve independently. On the other hand, the demolition and regeneration of large abandoned inns and hotels in the central areas of hot spring towns have the potential to significantly contribute to the revitalization of the private market, the restoration of town vibrancy, and the promotion of tourism, thereby fostering sustainable town development.

This project targets large abandoned buildings such as inns and hotels remaining in the central areas of local hot spring towns, etc. By subsidizing their demolition and reduction in size, it aims to promote the sustainable circulation of the regional economy, facilitate multifaceted business development that leverages unique regional cultures and assets, and achieve the regeneration of these facilities as tourist attractions and the restoration of vibrancy to the entire community through public-private collaboration.
