In 2026, mudy on the 昨晩, who will finally celebrate their 20th anniversary, announced details of their new album and the first wave of performers for their anniversary show on June 28 during "All Our Tomorrows — Curated by cinema staff."

This new work, "The Golden Age," is their first full album in approximately three years. It includes "MOONWALK," their first song ever to feature guest vocals by IkkYU (tricot) with lyrics by Hirokazu Furusawa, "Yume wo Tobu Sora" (Dream of Flying) with a horn section, and previously digitally released tracks "CLIMAXXX" and "Modoranai." The album contains 10 songs produced over approximately 1.5 years, plus a CD-exclusive bonus track.

Furthermore, a joint release with LIKE A FOOL RECORDS has been realized thanks to a long-standing friendship and a "love call" from Tomoyuki Tsuji (cinema staff/peelingwards/mynameis)! Following their previous release, an in-store event will be held at LIKE A FOOL RECORDS on October 25 (noon), shortly after the album's release. Harutomo Kawamo served as the sound engineer, and FUKE (NOTHING/I ACCEPT) handled the artwork. Furusawa described it as, "Our latest form and our peak form," a truly fitting album for this milestone.

mudy on the 昨晩, a triple-guitar extreme instrumental band from Nagoya. Their 4th full album, released as they reach their 20th anniversary. This will be a joint release with monchént records and LIKE A FOOL RECORDS, who also released their previous album.

Three years have passed since their comeback full album "An Instrumental," released after an 11-year hiatus. Since time began moving again, they have been on a whirlwind, engaging in active live performances and completing "The Golden Age" with the momentum of reclaiming lost time. Their three distinct guitars intertwine complexly, naturally switching roles within the songs. It is dramatic, and at times intensely chaotic. In the past, they were often categorized with trendy terms like post-rock or math rock, and the instrumental style itself is no longer rare. Indeed, complex phrases, odd time signatures, and high-speed tapping can be found aplenty if one searches. However, it's not about those elements; it's about mudy's unique melodic sensibility that transcends the concept of instrumental music, and their sense of balance remains unparalleled. One can strangely see connections to the free ensembles of recent bands like black midi and caroline, or even the initial impulse of old progressive rock. And what they've been playing for 20 years, which is overwhelmingly unlike anything else, sounds incredibly fitting now. The moment the first track, "GOLD," plays, and the title "The Golden Age" itself, feel strangely appropriate.

As a side note, about 15 years ago, I felt a sense of envy when I heard that mudy on the 昨晩 would be opening for Do Make Say Think. I feel that this album also carries a musicality connected to that feeling. It opens with the chaotic rock number "GOLD," full of mudy's signature style, followed by "MOONWALK," their first full-song track featuring guest vocals by IkkYU (tricot) with lyrics by Hirokazu Furusawa. Personally, the track that resonated most was "Yume wo Tobu Sora" (Dream of Flying) with the horn section, along with the digitally released "CLIMAXXX" and "Modoranai," for a total of 11 songs. mudy on the 昨晩 celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. We began working on this release, fitting for this milestone, around the beginning of 2024. The desire to "do something new" is surely shared by every band. Nevertheless, we search for a silhouette that only we can create as we write our songs. All 10 songs were made over approximately 1.5 years. This is our latest form and our peak form. When the first song, "GOLD," was completed, I intuitively felt it would definitely be the opening track, and the title "The Golden Age" was named accordingly. The fact that the title naturally emerged alongside the song symbolizing the album assures me that this release is undoubtedly correct. "MOONWALK," mudy's first full-song track featuring IkkYU Nakajima of tricot as a guest vocalist, includes lyrics I wrote myself. I believe we have shaped the band's past and the future landscape they are heading towards. Please enjoy this latest work, a distorted trophy from a band that remains quirky no matter how much time passes.
