Mie Chuo Kaihatsu Co., Ltd. and Shigen Junkan Systems Co., Ltd., subsidiaries of Daiei Kankyo Co., Ltd., are launching the "ONDO - FROM WASTE TO WONDER" project in collaboration with Atelier Ondo. This project challenges the creation of new value from recycled materials. An exhibition to unveil the brand will be held from April 17 (Fri) to April 26 (Sun), 2026, at the Iga Akai Family Residence (former samurai residence), where sustainable art pieces made from recycled plastic will be presented.
ONDO from waste to wonder
1. Background and Concept
We are challenging ourselves to shed light on sustainable materials that have previously gone unnoticed and to create new value. This initiative began with the idea that the power of art, when combined with recycled materials derived from container packaging plastics manufactured by Mie Chuo Kaihatsu, could become a catalyst for promoting recycling.
Normally, these recycled materials would circulate as low-grade products, but we explored the possibility of art transforming them to adorn spaces and even become works of art themselves. We are undertaking an initiative to elevate product characteristics that would typically be considered negative factors into the "individuality" of the material, transforming them into beauty. By giving "stories" and "expressions" to often overlooked recycled materials, we have brought out their new appeal.
This time, we will hold an unveiling exhibition in collaboration with cultural facilities in Iga, aiming to become a bridge for the region through art x culture x recycling. Experience the aesthetics of regeneration, where we re-evaluate the value of beauty by re-examining the value of recycled materials.
