Denki Kogyo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President: Tadatoshi Kondo; hereinafter 'the Company') has introduced and commenced operation of the 'AI People Flow and Traffic Analysis System' (hereinafter 'the System') for Fukushima City as part of the city's efforts to enhance attractiveness and circulation in the downtown area. In Fukushima City, AI cameras are used to measure the volume of pedestrians throughout the year, and since April 1, 2026, people flow and traffic data have been published via a public dashboard. This initiative is positioned as the first case of its kind within Fukushima Prefecture.
The System enables visualization of trends by time of day and day of the week, gender and age attributes, and changes in traffic volume over time. The analyzed and statistically processed data is available for anyone to view for free as open data. It is expected to be used for policy planning and effect verification in Fukushima City, as well as for sales promotion and store opening plans by local businesses.
Fukushima City was considering ways to regularly and quantitatively evaluate the vibrancy of the downtown area, centered around Fukushima Station, to improve attractiveness and circulation. Under these circumstances, based on its track record with AI people flow and traffic analysis systems in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, and the Obiyamachi-suji Shopping District in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, the Company proposed the System as a mechanism to constantly grasp traffic data and acquire highly useful data, which was subsequently adopted.
In this project, the Company was responsible for the study of the camera system and local installation work. The system was adopted through a joint proposal by the Company and its group company, CyberCore Co., Ltd., utilizing CyberCore's technical expertise for the AI models. This achieved an integrated delivery system within the group, from camera system study to AI model construction and installation, allowing for one-stop support from introduction to operation.
The 'AI People Flow and Traffic Analysis System' provided by the Company also supports directional people flow and traffic analysis, which can be utilized for improving circulation in city centers and traffic volume analysis. This is also expected to be used by local retailers for sales planning, product development, and sales forecasting based on arrival trends by time and attribute.
The Company will continue to support objective status grasping and decision-making by local governments and regional businesses through AI and data utilization, contributing to the creation of comfortable and attractive urban spaces.
