Tokyo Denki University (President: Tadahiko Iba) will introduce a new curriculum for liberal arts education starting in fiscal year 2026. The new curriculum will be implemented across all faculties and will consist of five subject areas: "Human Science Subjects," "English Subjects," "Mathematics Subjects," "Information Subjects," and "Natural Science and Technology Subjects."
In line with the goal of "building a liberal arts education for science and engineering" as set forth in our medium-term plan, "TDU Vision 2028" (FY2024–2028), the university has been developing a university-wide liberal arts education system since 2023. In April 2025, we established the "Liberal Arts Education Center" as a university-wide faculty organization responsible for liberal arts education.
Previously, liberal arts education at our university was conducted under the name "Common Education Subjects," with unique curricula developed independently at both the Tokyo Senju and Saitama Hatoyama campuses. We have now organized a unified liberal arts curriculum for the entire university that reflects our founding spirit and educational research philosophy. Renamed "Liberal Arts Education Subjects," this new curriculum integrates and reorganizes the previous offerings into five categories: "Human Science Subjects" (humanities and social sciences), "English Subjects" (English education), "Mathematics Subjects" and "Information Subjects" (mathematical and data science), and "Natural Science and Technology Subjects" (basic natural sciences).
By comprehensively viewing our students' four-year learning journey and systematically teaching liberal arts subjects in conjunction with specialized courses, we are committed to cultivating talent capable of contributing to society through science and technology.
Overview of "Liberal Arts Education Subjects"
Humanities and Social Sciences Subject Category: Human Science Subjects Overview: Students will broaden their ways of thinking and values, while learning about the ethics essential for scientists and engineers, the ability to think about things from multiple perspectives, the relationship between science, technology, and society, and perspectives that look toward the world.
English Education Subject Category: English Subjects Overview: We use original university materials created with engineering in mind so that students can acquire the English proficiency required of science and engineering graduates in stages over four years. The curriculum is designed to balance the development of both specialized knowledge and English proficiency.
Mathematical and Data Science Subject Category: Mathematics Subjects / Information Subjects Overview: Classes are divided according to the level of mathematical understanding, designed so that students can learn steadily at their own pace. In data science subjects, students learn the basics of reading data and applying it to their specialized fields, acquiring information utilization skills as scientists and engineers.
Basic Natural Sciences Subject Category: Natural Science and Technology Subjects Overview: We emphasize "hands-on education," where students learn by working with their hands through experiments and practical training. By connecting knowledge with practice, students will build a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and attitudes toward learning necessary for studying specialized subjects.

About the Liberal Arts Education Center Established in April 2025, the "Liberal Arts Education Center" is a faculty organization spanning both the Tokyo Senju and Saitama Hatoyama campuses (all faculties). It includes approximately 80 faculty members from a wide range of fields who have been involved in common education—such as humanities and social sciences, English education, mathematical and data science, and basic natural sciences—which were previously developed independently at both campuses (as of March 2026). The roles of this center are: (1) to serve as the provider of university-wide liberal arts education, (2) to build a liberal arts curriculum unique to Tokyo Denki University, and (3) to implement subject development and quality assurance for this purpose on a university-wide scale.
