We are pleased to announce that DataLabs Inc.'s (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Daisuke Tajiri; hereinafter "DataLabs") 3D infrastructure inspection system, "Markly," has been listed in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's (MLIT) "Inspection Support Technology Performance Catalog."

In line with the "Principle of Utilizing Inspection Support Technologies for Direct Inspections" promoted by MLIT, the introduction of this technology will accelerate the DX of infrastructure maintenance operations, contributing to overwhelming efficiency and improved accuracy.

■ Background: Principle of Utilizing Inspection Support Technologies and Markly's Role

To address the aging of road infrastructure and the shortage of skilled workers, MLIT has made it a principle to utilize inspection support technologies for direct inspections of bridges, tunnels, and other structures. DataLabs has been developing "Markly" to improve productivity at inspection sites, using 3D data and inspection photos acquired with smartphones and iPads to easily generate drawings and quantity calculation sheets necessary for repair design. Its practicality and high effectiveness have now been recognized, leading to its inclusion in the catalog.

■ Results Achieved by Markly (Based on Trial Results with Shikoku Regional Development Bureau, etc.)

Trial results conducted in bridge repair design and investigation confirmed the following significant achievements compared to conventional technologies, receiving high evaluations in each category.

  1. Approximately 73% Reduction in Repair Design Costs It is possible to dramatically reduce costs in the survey and repair design process compared to conventional methods. An overall cost reduction of approximately 15% is achieved throughout the entire process.

  2. Construction Period Shortened by Approximately 32 Days (47.5 days → 15.2 days) By automatically generating drawings and quantity calculation sheets from inspection data, the enormous amount of internal work that previously required extensive time is significantly reduced. It received an evaluation of "Extremely Excellent (A-rating)" in process management.

  3. High-Precision DX with General-Purpose Devices It does not require a dedicated laser scanner and can utilize scan data from general-purpose devices such as iPads and iPhones. On-site inspections between ordering parties and contractors can be completed on the cloud without visiting the site, contributing to reduced travel costs.

■ Future Outlook (3D InfraLoop)

DataLabs proposes "3D InfraLoop," a new way of building the infrastructure lifecycle from inspection and survey to repair design, construction, and maintenance, all based on 3D data.

Through the realization of this "3D InfraLoop," which involves "circulating (Loop) and continuously utilizing 3D data acquired once throughout the entire infrastructure lifecycle," we will contribute to both labor-saving in infrastructure maintenance and extending its lifespan, thereby building a sustainable social infrastructure.
