Tatsuru Uchida
Born in Tokyo in 1950. Chairman of the Board of Kobe College. Professor Emeritus at Kobe College. Graduated from the Department of French Literature, Faculty of Letters, University of Tokyo, and withdrew from the doctoral program in Humanities, Graduate School, Tokyo Metropolitan University. Specializes in French literature and philosophy, martial arts theory, and education theory.
His major works include 'Ethics of Hesitation,' 'Levinas and the Phenomenology of Love,' and 'Structuralism You Can Learn While Sleeping.' He received the 6th Hideo Kobayashi Award ('My Private Edition: Jewish Cultural Theory'), the Shinchosha New Book Award 2010 ('Theory of Japan's Borderlands'), and the 3rd Juzo Itami Award. His educational books include 'Education Theory of the Town,' 'Teachers Are Great,' and 'Downward Mobility.' Recent works include 'Lessons on Aging' and 'Sinking Japan and a Chaotic World.' He presides over Kaifukan, a private academy for martial arts and philosophical research in Kobe City.
