Shoji Kokami
Born in Ehime Prefecture in 1958. Author and director. While attending Waseda University, he formed the theater company "Daisan Butai" and has since been involved in writing and directing. Currently active with the production unit "KOKAMI@network." In addition to stage performances, he is widely active as a film director, radio personality, novelist, and essayist. In 1987, he received the Kinokuniya Theater Award for "Asahi no you na Yuuhi wo Tsurete," the Golden Arrow Award in 1992 for "Tenshi wa Hitomi wo Tojite," the 39th Kishida Kunio Drama Award in 1994 for "Snufkin no Tegami," and the Yomiuri Literary Award for Drama in 2009 for "Globe Jungle." His recent works include the "Shoji Kokami's Cheerful Life Counseling" series (Asahi Shimbun Publications), "Sayonara Song - The Crane Returns" (Ronso Sha), "Lesson of Loneliness and Anxiety," "Lesson of Communication," "Hints for Happiness," "How to Not Be Nervous or Flustered" (all from Daiwa Bunko), and co-authored "When You Need a Poem, It's Next to You - Poems of Shuntaro Tanikawa Selected by Shoji Kokami" (Daiwa Shobo).
