Daigas Energy Begins Supplying Renewable Energy to Mukogawa Gakuin

Daigas Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "the Company"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas Co., Ltd., has signed an offsite PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) with Mukogawa Gakuin, which operates Mukogawa Women's University, and commenced the supply of renewable energy (hereinafter "RE") electricity from May 2026. RE electricity will be supplied to Mukogawa Women's University's main campus, the Central Campus, and other facilities. Approximately 25% of the total electricity supplied by Osaka Gas to these facilities will be covered by solar power through an offsite PPA. This initiative is expected to reduce approximately 1,100 tons of CO2 annually. An offsite PPA is a contract where a power generator, retail electricity provider, and consumer enter into a long-term, fixed-price electricity purchase agreement, premised on electricity supply from a remote power plant to the demand site via the transmission and distribution network. Due to the impact of recent global circumstances, the wholesale electricity market (JEPX) has seen sharp rises and falls in prices, further increasing electricity bill volatility. Furthermore, with an eye on future carbon neutrality, various corporations are advancing the procurement of RE electricity, and the value of RE may further increase in the future. Against this backdrop, offsite PPAs can contribute to a long-term, stable supply of RE. Mukogawa Women's University established a new Faculty of Environmental Symbiosis in April 2025, focusing on education that realizes a sustainable society by utilizing life sciences and global environmental resources. Furthermore, it has decided to become co-educational from the 2027 academic year, aiming for students to acquire the ability to solve social issues themselves in a rapidly changing and diversifying world. This supply of RE electricity will contribute to achieving these goals.
