Daicel Corporation (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Osaka; President and CEO: Yasuyuki Sakaki) will begin sales of "Vaast®", an amino acid simultaneous chiral analysis column, on July 1, 2026. This column enables simultaneous analysis of 21 types of natural amino acids, including their enantiomers (D-form/L-form)※, in under 5 minutes using a single column and a single method.
Amino acids have "enantiomers," which are mirror-image isomers of each other. The D-form and L-form can have different properties and biological functions, leading to increasing demand for high-precision and rapid analysis in fields such as drug discovery research and development, advanced quality control, health diagnostics, and food and nutritional science. However, conventional methods for analyzing amino acid enantiomers often require multiple columns, analytical methods, and lengthy pretreatment, posing challenges in terms of reproducibility and throughput (amount of work that can be processed in a given time) due to the complexity of the procedures.
Utilizing our proprietary technology, the new product "Vaast®" can simultaneously analyze a total of 21 types of natural amino acids, including the 20 proteinogenic amino acids and homoserine, in under 5 minutes, a process that previously took approximately 50 minutes. Furthermore, when combined with derivatization using AQC (6-aminoquinolyl-N-hydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate), precise and highly sensitive quantitative analysis is possible.
With our chiral separation and analysis technology cultivated over many years, we will continue to contribute to the improvement of people's health and quality of life.

※Reference: Amino Acid Enantiomers
Most amino acids that constitute proteins in living organisms exist as L-form (L-amino acid) and D-form (D-amino acid), which are enantiomers with mirror-image configurations but the same molecular formula. Although the types and numbers of atoms are the same, the properties of the enantiomers, L-form and D-form, can differ as substances due to variations in the way atoms are connected or their spatial arrangement.
