National Theatre Live's 'The Audience' to be Screened in Cinemas from May 1st, Featuring Helen Mirren

National Theatre Live (NTLive)'s hit production 'The Audience,' a supreme human drama, will be screened in cinemas from May 1st (Friday). The play was written by Peter Morgan, globally recognized for scripting the film 'The Queen' and the Netflix original series 'The Crown.' It portrays the private 'audiences' held between Queen Elizabeth II and her prime ministers over her 60-year reign. The content of these conversations was constitutionally unrecorded and forbidden to be disclosed. Morgan, who researched historical documents related to these 'audiences,' skillfully recreates the interactions between the Queen and prime ministers, from Winston Churchill to Margaret Thatcher and up to the present day, highlighting the struggles of individuals bearing the burden of leading a nation. Through the Queen's encouraging, sharply questioning, and humorous engagements with her prime ministers, the play vividly illuminates her personal conflicts as a woman and her pride as a monarch upholding tradition. Directed by Stephen Daldry, known for works like 'Billy Elliot' and 'Skylight,' the production blends historical gravitas with exquisite humor. Helen Mirren, who won both the Laurence Olivier Award and Tony Award for Best Actress for her role in this play, delivers a commanding performance as Queen Elizabeth II, drawing audiences deep into Buckingham Palace. This acclaimed work, which inspired the popular drama 'The Crown,' was first successful in the West End and later performed on Broadway in March 2015. Mirren received the 2013 Evening Standard Award and Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Elizabeth II in this production, and the 2015 Tony Award for Best Actress for the Broadway run.
