This work, inspired by Kunio Kishida's short play "In front of the Greenhouse," is a dialogue drama that portrays the emotional landscape of a brother and sister living a life isolated from the outside world, as they become embroiled in romantic commotion. This new piece by the unit, which has previously constructed grand fictions ranging from romantic comedies to absurdist plays and dystopian stories, deliberately aimed for a "small story."

The setting is Showa 3 (1928). The siblings, Gaku and Sorako, live alone in a splendid Western-style mansion in the suburbs of Tokyo. The brother cultivates plants in the greenhouse, while the sister diligently takes care of him. Despite living comfortably on their parents' inheritance, they couldn't shake off a sense of loneliness. However, their lives begin to change with the visit of old acquaintances, the couple Hinode and Mayumi, and Gaku's old friend Toba, who is now a successful writer.

The relationship between the two, living cut off from society, is almost like that of a married couple. They find solace in records and acknowledge their solitude...

From the opening act, which depicts a mere tens of minutes of interaction during the New Year, their intimacy and distortion are revealed. Even as the visitors bring in winds from the outside world and romantic drama unfolds, the siblings' behavior remains unrefined and at times peculiar. Yet, at the same time, they possess a kindness that considers each other's romantic prospects, a frankness and purity that comes from not being worldly-wise, gradually emanating an irresistible charm and magnetic pull. The whimsical actions of the unique visitors and the laughter caused by the siblings being swayed by them make their existence appear even more poignant and endearing.

This work, though its era and relationship settings may give an impression of being old-fashioned and modest, depicts human expressions and emotions with such freshness, even sensuality. In other words, it offered the unique pleasure of theater, allowing one to witness and deeply observe the living activities of human beings.
