[2026 Mother's Day Survey Report] When Was Your Mother's Last Screening? Only 21.4% of Children's Generation "Know in Detail" Their Parents' Screening Status
A survey by Craif Inc. revealed that only about 20% of children know their parents' cancer screening status. In response, Craif is launching a Mother's Day discount campaign for their urine cancer screening kit, "miSignal," proposing health as a gift.

Craif Inc. (Location: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director and CEO: Ryuichi Onose, hereafter Craif), which provides the urine cancer test "miSignal®", is publishing the results of an "Awareness Survey on Family Health" conducted among 290 miSignal registrants. Additionally, we announce the launch of a special Mother's Day campaign, "Give the Gift of 'Peace of Mind' to Mother," starting Thursday, April 23, 2026.
■ Background of the Survey
In an era where 1 in 2 Japanese people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime (*1), the cancer screening rate continues to fall short of the government's target of 60% for all types of cancer (*2). In particular, the cancer screening rates for women are all below half: 36.5% for stomach cancer, 42.8% for colorectal cancer, and 47.4% for breast cancer (*2).
Under these circumstances, ahead of Mother's Day, we conducted an original questionnaire survey to find out how much communication regarding health takes place within families.
(*1) National Cancer Center "Latest Cancer Statistics" (2021 data) Men 63.3%, Women 50.8%
(*2) Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare "2022 Comprehensive Survey of Living Conditions", National Cancer Center Cancer Information Service
■ Survey Results
1. Approximately 80% have not communicated screening information in detail to their families
Only 21.4% answered that they "know in detail" about what kind of health checkups and cancer screenings their parents undergo. 30.7% "know somewhat," while 23.4% "hardly know" and 24.5% "don't know at all," revealing that about half do not know their parents' screening status.
2. Only 30% "fully communicate" health anxieties to their families
When asked if they communicate their own physical anxieties or health concerns to their families, only 31.0% answered that they "communicate everything." Combining the 19.0% who "don't communicate much" and 12.0% who "don't communicate at all," it was found that about 1 in 3 people cannot communicate their health anxieties to their families.
3. What the mother's generation is happy to receive - TOP 3 are "Experiences/Feelings"
When female respondents in their 50s and 60s with children (n=60) were asked what they "would be happy to have done for Mother's Day," the top three were all "experiences/feelings" rather than "material goods."
1st "Receiving words of gratitude" (36.7%)
2nd "Being invited out for a meal or trip" (35.0%)
3rd "Time spent together" (33.3%)
This suggests a gap with the actual feelings of the recipients compared to "flowers" (38.7%), which was ranked 1st by the givers as what they "want to give on Mother's Day."
What emerged from this survey was a situation where, even if families care about each other's health, they "cannot accurately grasp the screening status" and "cannot fully share health anxieties"—knowing, yet not knowing about their parents' health.
Precisely because it is difficult to talk directly about health, we believe that giving shape to the feeling of "caring about the health of a loved one" on an occasion like Mother's Day will be the first step in family health communication.
