*Fresh cake retailers are not available in Hokkaido, the Kyushu region, or the prefectures of Fukui, Kyoto, Shiga, Tottori, Shimane, Yamaguchi, Ehime, and Kochi.

Looks like mentaiko mayo, but tastes like strawberry!? A little panic over the gap between appearance and taste!

Mentaiko mayonnaise being squeezed onto a cake without hesitation... or so it seems. It is actually a custard cream containing strawberry pulp, designed to mimic the grainy texture of mentaiko (spicy cod roe).

Following its appearance on our official social media accounts today for April Fools' Day, we have decided to commercialize "Is it real mentaiko or mayo!? Drinkable Strawberry Custard" and will begin sales on April 3.

Last year, when we sold the custard cream from our signature "Jumbo Cream Puff" as "Is it real or mayo!? Drinkable Custard" for April Fools' Day, it generated a great deal of excitement among customers, especially on social media. As a company that aims to "connect smiles through sweets," we planned this year's product to be something that would make our customers smile. By combining various ideas from our product planning department with the skills of our pastry chefs, we created a strawberry custard cream that looks just like mentaiko mayonnaise. You can drink it straight, drizzle it on cake, or spread it on toast. Please enjoy it in a variety of ways.

I strongly felt that by turning last year's "Is it real or mayo!? Drinkable Custard" into a topic of conversation, we were able to create opportunities for smiles and communication. We wanted to plan a product that would make customers smile again this year, so various ideas were flying around in our product planning meetings. During that process, we thought, if we use strawberries—which are familiar in cakes and pies—wouldn't we be able to create a delicious sweet that customers would enjoy? That is how the product development started. In development, we focused on expressing the grainy texture of mentaiko using strawberry pulp, and we went through many prototypes. As a result, we completed a product that has the realistic look of mentaiko mayo while allowing you to enjoy the sweet and sour taste of strawberries and the milky flavor of custard.

We have finished it with a taste and appearance that will not betray the expectations of customers who purchased "Drinkable Custard" last year, while also being enjoyable for first-time customers. It's great to drink straight! Great to drizzle! Great to add extra custard! Great to bake! It can also be used as an item to surprise your family and friends with a "What!?" moment. I would be very happy if you could find new ways to use it and enjoy it.
