Pia Corporation (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO Hiroshi Yanai), in conjunction with the May issue of the monthly Pia magazine 'Tobu! Pia' released on May 15, 2026 (Friday), is currently holding a special exhibition at Aeon Cinema Ebina, known as 'Japan's first cineplex'.
Special Project for the May 22 release of 'Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu': Star Wars × Pia Masamichi Oikawa 'Pia' Cover Illustration Gallery
Aeon Cinema Ebina is Japan's first cinema complex, opened in April 1993, and has been long cherished as a 'holy place for Star Wars' fans. The theater is scheduled to cease operations on May 17, 2026 (Sunday). Currently, as a closing event, the theater is holding THX screenings of all theatrical films in the 'Star Wars' series, including an all-night marathon screening from the night of May 16 (Saturday) to the morning of May 17 (Sunday).
This exhibition showcases 'Star Wars' cover illustrations by illustrator Masamichi Oikawa, who has worked on the cover of the information magazine 'Pia' for many years. In addition to the 11 works drawn as 'Pia' covers from 'Return of the Jedi' in 1983 to 'Revenge of the Sith' in 2005, the latest cover illustration for the monthly magazine 'Tobu! Pia' May issue, depicting 'Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu', is also on display.
It is a valuable special project that intersects entertainment and exhibition, adorning the closing of this historic cinema. The exhibition runs until May 17 (Sunday). Tomorrow will be the last chance to see it.
[Also exhibiting: The world of Masamichi Oikawa's 'Pia' covers, continuing since 1975]
The venue also features a large collage panel introducing the world of 'Pia' cover illustrations by Masamichi Oikawa, which has been ongoing since 1975.
Lined up with numerous cover illustrations featuring movies, theater, music, and culture that symbolize the era, the panel is the very memory of entertainment recorded by 'Pia' magazine. Along with the 'Star Wars' exhibition, you can experience the charm of Mr. Oikawa's cover illustrations as the 'face of the era'.
