Sharp Launches Smartwatch 'Karada Mate Watch'

Sharp will launch its first smartwatch, the 'Karada Mate Watch' <MH-W01>, on July 9, 2024. The device enables automatic measurement of calorie intake and visualizes the balance between calories consumed and burned (※1). Users can naturally check various vital data through everyday gestures like checking the time, helping them reconsider their lifestyle habits.

The device was developed using FLOW™ Technology, a patented technology from HEALBE Corporation (※2), which specializes in biometric data analysis. It automatically measures and records calorie intake by detecting changes in body water movement and glucose levels. Calories burned are calculated based on activity levels, allowing users to easily track their daily calorie balance. The device also monitors hydration balance (※1) and alerts users with sound (※3) and vibration when hydration is needed. Additionally, it measures various data points including heart rate, step count, and other activity metrics.

The watch also features Sharp's proprietary user experience (UX) called 'Circuit View.' It automatically switches and displays relevant information based on the time of day—such as sleep duration, weather, and schedule upon waking; step count, heart rate, and calories burned during the day; and next-day weather and plans before bedtime. This seamless delivery of timely information encourages behavioral change and supports lifestyle improvement.

The device is compatible with hand soap cleaning (※4). Its simple design makes it suitable for various scenarios, from business to casual wear. Notably, the device has won the '2026 iF Design Award.'

※1 Calorie intake and hydration balance measurements use FLOW™ Technology provided by HEALBE Corporation. For accurate calorie measurement and expenditure calculation, it is recommended to wear the device for 22–23 hours per day (including during meals and sleep). Calorie intake is an estimate and may differ from actual intake depending on individual physiology and usage conditions.
