Vacan, Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Takashin Kawano, hereinafter 'Vacan'), which provides services utilizing a platform supporting facilities and areas with the mission to 'Gently connect people and spaces with technology' by visualizing congestion using AI technology, announces that it has started visualizing the congestion status of 20 restaurants in Atre Ueno as part of a demonstration experiment conducted by JR East at Ueno Station.
■ Background of Implementation
Ueno Station is a terminal station visited by diverse passengers from domestic and international locations. Aiming to ease overall station congestion and reduce waiting times, trial operations are underway to visualize congestion at Midori-no-Madoguchi (ticket offices) and reserved seat ticket vending machines. In commercial facilities within the station as well, it was difficult to know until arriving at the location whether a facility could be used immediately or how many minutes it would take, which sometimes led to a loss of usage opportunities. Particularly due to the nature of being inside a station, not knowing in advance which facilities can be used within a limited time was a challenge for how people spent their time at the station.
In this initiative, as part of a demonstration experiment, we aim to encourage the leveling of station congestion and reduce waiting times by broadcasting the congestion status of 20 restaurants in Atre Ueno. This is expected to increase the degree of freedom in movement and stay for users, leading to improved customer satisfaction.
■ About This Initiative
This time, using the congestion information distribution platform 'VACAN', the congestion status will be distributed to signage and web pages. Congestion status data is collected by detecting queue conditions with 'VACAN AIS', an AI camera that visualizes congestion.
Users can instantly check the current congestion status from digital signage and the web page 'UENO TIME'.
In addition, on the web page 'UENO TIME', when users select their 'current location' and 'available time', a list of 'shops easy to enter now' corresponding to those conditions is displayed. It presents actionable choices even within a limited stay time.
