Project Overview
Wakayama Prefecture boasts "Spaceport Kii," Japan's first private rocket launch site, located in Kushimoto Town at the southernmost tip of Honshu. Positioning the space industry as a "vital industry," the prefecture is accelerating the creation of industries and innovation originating from space. In 2025, it launched "Kii Space HUB," a project aimed at creating industries and revitalizing the region. It is deploying multifaceted initiatives, such as supporting the entry of local companies, nurturing next-generation talent, and disseminating information domestically and internationally.
Furthermore, in the same year, the prefecture formulated the "Space Action Plan," a set of behavioral guidelines for the accumulation of the space industry. The utilization of satellite data is positioned as an important promotional theme. Starting in March 2026, verification of satellite data utilization began jointly with JAXA. Attempts to approach regional issues from a "space perspective" are moving into full swing, such as early detection of damage to road slopes through fixed-point observation, detection of surface deformation for disaster mitigation, and grasping forest pests and diseases.
In this phase, talent with specialized expertise is indispensable. Therefore, the prefecture has newly established the "Satellite Data Utilization Advisor" as a side-job position. This will be the first public recruitment conducted with the cooperation of en Japan. Leveraging their knowledge of satellite data utilization, the advisor will play a role in hands-on support as a hub for government administration, private companies, and research institutions. This is a crucial position for co-creating the future of Wakayama. In principle, remote work is allowed, and the expected workload is about one day per week.
en Japan will support the recruitment through job services such as "Middle no Tenshoku," "AMBI," and "en Tenshoku." We provide consistent support from hiring talent to their subsequent active role and retention. We look forward to applications from those with the ambition to turn Wakayama Prefecture into a space city by utilizing the expertise they have cultivated.
Comment from Yoshio Yamamoto, Director General of the General Affairs Department, Wakayama Prefecture
