The July issue of VOGUE JAPAN, the Japanese edition of the world's most influential fashion magazine, will be released on Monday, June 1st. This issue, themed 'Summer of Curiosity,' delivers fashion, beauty, books, art, and travel spots designed to stimulate summer curiosity and help readers discover new values and emotions. The cover and cover story feature four top Asian models—Kayako Higuchi, Mika, Mona Kawasaki, and Peng Chang—set against the backdrop of Tokyo's streets and galleries, wearing optimistic summer looks with light colors, exciting prints, and free forms. In addition to 'A Colorful Summer Begins,' which proposes casual and pop styles for an early summer vacation, the annual beauty feature covers light fragrances perfect for hot and humid weather, care-oriented scents that soothe summer days, and skincare for summer skin prone to accelerated aging due to UV rays and heat. Furthermore, 'Summer Books that Carry Summer Memories,' 'Summer Scenery Encountered in Naoshima,' and 'Enjoying the Extraordinary Summer' introduce books, art, and spots recommended by the VOGUE JAPAN editorial team, including the Naoshima New Museum established last spring and Amami Oshima, known as the 'Galapagos of the East.' JOY RIDE: When Two Legends Meet. We present a conversation between Meryl Streep, who played Miranda Priestly in 'The Devil Wears Prada' series, and Anna Wintour, the model for the same character, as featured in the April US edition of VOGUE. Meryl sharply analyzes the current situation where women unconsciously 'play down' their appearance and attitude to avoid threatening men's positions, stating, 'Women's status has improved significantly from the late 20th century to the present, but in exchange for that status, we have had to make ourselves look smaller.' Lead actress Tao Okamoto, who won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for the film 'Suddenly Feeling Unwell' (releasing June 19th), and director Ryusuke Hamaguchi discussed the behind-the-scenes of the film and how they built their relationship. Also, when asked about moments when 'coincidence' influenced the work, following the original story that emphasized surrendering to coincidence, director Hamaguchi revealed, 'This film is made by connecting the good coincidences that arise on set. Since filming 'Evil Does Not Exist,' I think the feeling of surrendering to such things has become stronger.'
