360Channel Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Keiji Komatsu; hereafter "360Channel") collaborated in the production of a "digital archive" promoted by the Secretariat of the Headquarters for the Promotion of the International Exposition, Cabinet Secretariat. This archive aims to preserve the state of the 2025 World Exposition in Japan (Osaka-Kansai Expo) as an "experience" for future generations.
Currently available on the special website "Anytime, Anywhere Osaka-Kansai Expo '360° View'" within the official website of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, 360Channel has utilized its cultivated high-quality VR technology. It provides a "Realistic Digital Archive" that allows users to experience the excitement and architectural beauty of the Expo venue—which will be dismantled after the event concludes—across time and space.
■ Background of Digital Archive Production
The Osaka-Kansai Expo was held under the theme "Designing Future Society for Our Lives." Because most of the venues and pavilions will be dismantled after the six-month exhibition period, it will be impossible to physically experience the overwhelming scale, visitor flow, and the space itself ever again.
Therefore, to leave an official record of the Expo's achievements—where people interacted across borders and empathy was born—a project was launched under the Secretariat of the Headquarters for the Promotion of the International Exposition, Cabinet Secretariat, to create a "spatial archive shot in reality" using VR technology.
Leveraging its track record of transforming numerous large-scale events and tourism resources into XR, 360Channel aimed to provide a simulated Expo experience for those who could not attend, and a place for those who did attend to look back on their memories.
■ 360Channel's Role in This Project
⚫︎ Comprehensive Recording of 107 Locations, Including All Pavilions and a Total of 938 Spots
Using state-of-the-art filming equipment, almost the entire Expo venue was transformed into a comprehensive spatial archive.
- Inside the venue (Exterior): 938 spots were photographed with ultra-high-definition 12K resolution live-action images.
- Each Pavilion (Interior): 107 locations, including all pavilions, were filmed with 8K resolution live-action video.
- Reproduction of the event during operation: Rather than simply filming an empty state, with the cooperation of each pavilion, filming was conducted while faithfully reproducing normal operating conditions, including lighting, exhibit operation, and management status.
⚫︎ Realization of Immersive User Interface and Navigability
Constructed a virtual tour that allows users to walk freely around the venue with intuitive operations.
- Interactive Movement: Adopted a specification that allows users to freely navigate the venue by clicking icons on the floor.
- Integration of 360-degree video: By clicking icons placed at pavilion entrances, etc., users can watch 360-degree videos, enabling a deeper experience of the exhibition contents.
- Multi-device support: Optimized for a variety of devices, including PCs, smartphones, and VR goggles.

Even when viewing on a computer or smartphone browser, you can enjoy it as a 360-degree video by dragging the screen.
■ Comment from Keiji Komatsu, President and CEO of 360Channel
Over the 10 years since its founding, 360Channel has accumulated the largest production track record in Japan in the fields of 360-degree video and VR technology. We view realizing a spatial archive of this unprecedented scale—covering the entire venue and 107 locations including all pavilions—as a culmination of our efforts.
Leaving a space that can never be experienced locally again in a format that anyone can experience anytime through the power of technology—I feel this embodies our mission of "making new technologies familiar and bringing surprise to people."
While we are proud to have preserved the once-in-a-lifetime space of the Osaka-Kansai Expo through technology, moving forward, we will further promote our digital archive business to pass down "irreplaceable spaces" such as cultural properties, historical buildings, and events to future generations.
