Nine historically significant masterpieces by the world-renowned Japanese jazz trumpeter Terumasa Hino, recorded on Japan's first jazz-specialty label, TAKT, from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, will be digitally distributed all at once for the first time on May 15. In the late 1960s, when the post-war Japanese jazz scene was beginning to stir, at its center was Terumasa Hino, who burst onto the scene in his twenties. With his overwhelming playing style, handsome looks, and fashion sense that was ahead of its time, he boasted charismatic popularity and sparked an unprecedented 'Hinoteru boom' among the youth of the time. A total of nine albums and singles from the TAKT label period, which can be said to be a record of that frenzy, will finally be available for streaming and download.
The most anticipated work is the unprecedented blockbuster 'Hi-Nology'
The most anticipated work among this release is 'Hi-Nology,' which was recorded live at Ginza Yamaha Hall in July 1969. While strongly influenced by the electric sound of Miles Davis at the time, it is an ambitious masterpiece filled with Hino's own desire to construct his own jazz (= Hinology). This work, which boldly incorporated electric instruments such as the electric piano and electric bass, as well as rock rhythms, perfectly synchronized with the mood of the youth of the time who longed for freedom, and it became an exceptional blockbuster for a jazz album. It can be said to be an epoch-making monumental work in both Terumasa Hino's brilliant career and the history of Japanese jazz. Other must-listen works include his memorable first leader album 'Alone, Alone And Alone,' the masterpiece 'Hino-Kikuchi Quintet' by the legendary two-headed combo with genius pianist Masabumi Kikuchi, and his first overseas recording 'Alone Together,' co-starring with cutting-edge New York musicians such as a young Steve Grossman. Furthermore, it also includes the collaboration single 'Crash/Dhoop' with Flower Travellin' Band, which vividly conveys the spirit of the time.
