Live-Action Short Movie "The Kettle Family" Season 2 Begins!

"The Kettle Family" is an original short movie series that depicts casual, everyday scenes of the Nohara family from "Crayon Shin-chan," a family that lives cheerfully through any era.

Season 1 (7 episodes), released last year, depicted the "troublesome yet lovable family story" from the perspectives of Shinnosuke Nohara (25), played by Fumiya Takahashi, who lives alone while working in the city; his father Hiroshi (55), played by Taizo Harada; his mother Misae (49), played by Kumiko Aso; and his sister Himawari (20), played by Mei Hata. The realistic and relatable story, along with the high fidelity to the original characters, garnered a significant response both domestically and internationally, with Season 1's total views surpassing 38 million *2.

*2 As of the end of March 2026

The latest episode, Season 2 Episode 1, "Moving to Kasukabe!," begins with Shinnosuke, who had been living alone while working in the city, deciding to move back to his family home in his hometown of Kasukabe due to a work transfer. The scene starts with him packing his belongings. While packing, Shinnosuke reminisces about his memories of moving as a child while sorting through nostalgic items like his Action Mask mask and Kasukabe Defense Force badge. On the day of the move, his family, unable to wait for his return, piles into the car to pick him up. The scene portrays the typical, "troublesome yet lovable" daily life of the Nohara family through their usual interactions. And in the final scene, could there be a long-awaited new cast member...?

Additionally, a new 30-second commercial, "The Kettle Family is Back!," will air as a preview for the main feature, starting Saturday, April 11, during the broadcast of the TV anime "Crayon Shin-chan" (TV Asahi network).

<Behind the Scenes>

This was the first time in a while that the four members of the Nohara family gathered for a shoot. They were so in sync it was hard to believe it had been about a year since their last reunion, and their "family feel" seemed to have grown even stronger. Ms. Aso and Ms. Hata mentioned they were "laughing the whole time," and the shoot was filled with smiles in a very pleasant atmosphere.

In Shinnosuke's moving scene, there's a moment where he wears his Action Mask mask and strikes a pose. Mr. Takahashi's cool Action Mask pose was reminiscent of the first episode of Season 1.

Meanwhile, in the car scene where the Nohara family comes to pick up an eagerly awaited Shinnosuke, the cast was excitedly catching up on each other's lives even when the cameras weren't rolling. The shoot concluded amidst the warmth and liveliness characteristic of the Nohara family.

<Interview (Excerpt)>

—In the first episode, there's a heartwarming scene where Shinnosuke appears before his family wearing his nostalgic Action Mask mask. Do you have any treasured, memorable items from your childhood that you can't bring yourself to throw away?

Ms. Aso: I do. A towel blanket I've had since I was a baby. I've kept it in pretty good condition, so both my child and I have used it, for two generations.

Ms. Hata: I have a habit of throwing things away immediately... I even tried to throw away my elementary school backpack, and my mom got angry and had to stop me. She was like, "Don't! It's a memory!"

Mr. Takahashi: For me, similar to the towel blanket, it's a blanket that has moved with me every time I've relocated. It's a blanket I've probably used since I was a student, and though I don't use it at all now, I just can't seem to throw it away. It's been sleeping in a compression bag for about two years now.

Mr. Harada: You know what, I've thrown everything away! Every time I move.

Mr. Takahashi: You've thrown away your beard too, haven't you? (Referring to a conversation during the shoot where Mr. Harada's hair removal was a hot topic)

Ms. Hata & Ms. Aso: (Bursts out laughing)

Mr. Harada: My hair removal situation is none of your business!

——In Season 1, familiar characters from the original series, like Principal Enchou and Shiro, also made appearances. The final scene of Episode 1 hints at a new cast member, making us excited about who will appear in Season 2. Please tell us which characters you'd like to see in the future.

Ms. Hata: Nanako-oneisan! I wonder if she's in her late 30s by now? I'd love for the beautiful Nanako-oneisan to appear.

Mr. Takahashi: I hope someone from the Kasukabe Defense Force shows up. I'd like to act with my old friends. I wonder what the atmosphere would be like. I'd like to portray what kind of position the adult Shinnosuke holds within the Kasukabe Defense Force.

Ms. Aso: I just watched the movie, so I'm curious about Bo-chan! I wonder what he's like now.

Mr. Harada: For me, it has to be... we heard his voice, but Shiro hasn't appeared yet, right? I wonder if it's possible.
