NPO EPO (Edogawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Erika Mori), which operates the community 'COCOLON' for children with severe disabilities and their families, held an 'Indoor Cherry Blossom Viewing' event on March 29, 2026. Nine families, totaling 32 people, participated. The event provided a 'barrier-free spring' for families who often find it difficult to go out due to medical needs, allowing them to enjoy the season without worrying about crowds or weather. Families raising children with severe disabilities often face challenges in participating in seasonal events due to medical equipment management and mobility issues. 'Indoor Cherry Blossom Viewing' was designed to solve these issues. The venue was decorated with cherry blossoms and spring flowers, creating a safe, comfortable environment. COCOLON BASE is equipped with diaper changing tables and power sources for medical care. Meals were also customized into paste or minced forms by professional chefs and nutritionists, ensuring that children with feeding difficulties could enjoy the same course meal as their families. Participants praised the event, noting that they were able to experience things they usually cannot. The event also served as a valuable networking opportunity for parents. COCOLON plans to continue providing such inclusive experiences.
