Quad Foreign Ministers Meet in New Delhi to Revitalize Security Dialogue

According to the Central News Agency, foreign ministers from the United States, India, Japan, and Australia met in New Delhi today, hoping to revitalize the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) with a focus on the Indo-Pacific region. This is the third ministerial meeting since September 2024, with attendees including Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The four nations had planned a summit in India last year, but it was canceled due to tensions between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi over tariffs. However, all four countries are concerned about China's growing influence. Rubio stated on the 24th that the US wants the Quad to be more than just a platform for meetings every six months, aiming for it to be a mechanism that drives concrete cooperation, particularly on maritime security and critical minerals. Japan, having faced supply disruptions due to diplomatic disputes with China, is particularly keen on diversifying its mineral supply. Additionally, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran is expected to be a key topic of discussion.
