Man wields sickle in Kaohsiung, injuring passerby; police in pursuit

CNA Kaohsiung, May 26. A man surnamed Hsu, who was driving a car, went to buy a drink in Alian District, Kaohsiung City today. Upon exiting his vehicle, he encountered a man riding a bicycle and waving a sickle. Hsu was injured in the hand while trying to block the weapon. Police stated they have identified the suspect and are currently pursuing him to clarify the details of the case. Officers from the Hunei Precinct of the Kaohsiung City Police Department explained that they received a report at 5:22 PM regarding an assault in front of a beverage shop at the intersection of Zhongzheng Road and Heping Road in Alian District. Police arrived at the scene and learned that the suspect was riding a bicycle and shouting while waving a sickle. When 31-year-old Hsu got out of his car to buy a drink, he saw the sickle coming too close and reached out to block it, resulting in a cut on his hand. Police stated they have locked onto the suspect and are currently searching for him. The motive for the incident remains under investigation.
