Man Arrested in Taichung for Drug Use and Illegal Parking; Police Seize Drug-Laced Juice Packs

TAICHUNG (CNA) - Taichung police discovered a passenger car illegally parked on the side of the road while patrolling in Tanzi District yesterday. Upon inspection, they found a strong odor of drugs inside the vehicle and seized drug-laced juice packs and pills. The driver, a man surnamed Chen, admitted to driving after using drugs and was processed by the police according to the law. The Taichung City Police Bureau's Security Police Brigade announced today that the Second Squadron was on patrol on the afternoon of the 25th when they discovered a passenger car illegally parked on a red line with the engine idling on Section 3, Tanxing Road, Tanzi District, and immediately approached for questioning. Police noticed that the driver, Chen (41), appeared nervous and gave evasive answers. A strong odor of drugs was emanating from the car, and unidentified powder was found. A saliva test for drugs conducted on Chen showed positive results for benzodiazepines and methamphetamine. Officers further seized one "juice pack" and 40 "melon-flavored drug pills" (totaling 48.35 grams) from the passenger seat glove box, all of which tested positive for drugs. Additionally, based on observation test records, it was determined that Chen was objectively unable to drive safely, and he admitted to driving out after using drugs. After police questioning, Chen was cited for license suspension and his vehicle was impounded. He was subsequently referred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act and public endangerment.
