Taipei Stocks Close Down 119.03 Points

Central News Agency, Taipei, May 26: The Taipei stock market opened higher today but trended downward, closing at 43,525.37 points, down 119.03 points, or 0.27%. The total turnover was NT$1.473 trillion. The weighted index opened at 43,708.89 points, with a daily high of 44,097.63 and a low of 43,349.77. The index excluding financial stocks stood at 39,572.96, down 158.72 points. Among the eight major sectors, the ceramics sector fell 1.43%, food rose 0.16%, plastics rose 0.72%, textiles fell 1.65%, machinery and electronics fell 0.41%, paper fell 1.23%, construction fell 0.29%, and financial stocks rose 1.52%. Buy orders totaled 28.29 million shares, sell orders 21.73 million, and trading volume reached 17.75 million shares. At the close, 438 stocks rose, 569 fell, and 97 remained unchanged. The top five stocks by trading volume were Innolux, AUO, Active Uni-President 50, HannStar, and PSMC. The top five gainers were T-Global, Teco, YC, KNH, and Yubang. The top five losers were Sinogreen, Polaris Group, AUO, AmTRAN, and Lite-On.
