Taipei Police Officer Under Investigation for Unauthorized Data Access; Daan Precinct Disciplines Officer

Central News Agency, Taipei, May 26. The Ruian Street Police Station under the Daan Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department was searched by prosecutors and investigators today. The cause was a sergeant surnamed Hsu, who is suspected of accessing personal data for a friend in 2018 for non-official purposes. The Daan Precinct stated that it initiated the investigation itself, issued two demerits to the sergeant, and transferred him, while fully cooperating with the legal investigation. The Daan Precinct explained in a press release this afternoon that Sergeant Hsu was suspected of privately checking personal data for a friend in 2018. Upon discovering the illegal activity, the police proactively reported it to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation. Today, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office directed the Ministry of Justice's Investigation Bureau and the Daan Precinct to search the police station and the sergeant's residence. It is reported that Sergeant Hsu's daily work performance was normal. He has been taken to the Taipei City Investigation Office for questioning. The Daan Precinct stated that it is cooperating with the investigation and has issued two demerits to Sergeant Hsu, adjusted his service unit, and placed him under educational guidance. The Daan Precinct emphasized its stance of 'policing the police' and a 'no cover-up, no shielding, no leniency' attitude to investigate thoroughly.
