Yani Tseng Finishes 2nd in Taiwan Tour, Prepares for US Women's Open

Central News Agency, Taipei, May 25. Taiwan's "Smiling Queen" Yani Tseng finished 2nd in the recently concluded TLPGA WPG Ladies Open. She will now head to the US to prepare for the US Women's Open. Tseng said that returning to Taiwan to compete was very beneficial and a great help. Although Tseng finished 2nd in the TLPGA WPG Ladies Open that concluded yesterday, she played very competitively over the four days. She was the sole leader after the first three rounds and recorded a total of 14 birdies and 3 eagles over the four rounds. Tseng told Central News Agency reporters that she always enjoys returning to Taiwan to compete. "Being in the lead group for the last two days of this tournament allowed me to feel the excitement of competing for a title, which I believe will be very helpful for my preparation when I return to the US." Tseng mentioned that the US Women's Open is always one of the most special and difficult tournaments to play. She is happy to have qualified again this year and will definitely adjust her form to the best level before the tournament begins. Now 37, Tseng has won 15 LPGA titles in her career, including 5 major championships. In the era when there were only four majors, the US Women's Open was the only major Tseng failed to win. Tseng qualified this year via a "special exemption," so she did not need to play in regional qualifiers. Her best finish at the US Women's Open was a tie for 10th in 2010. In addition to Tseng, other Taiwanese players this year include Japan-based Wu Chia-yen, US-based Chien Pei-yun, and amateur Lin Chieh-en, all of whom qualified through regional qualifiers for the US Women's Open, which starts on June 4 with a total prize pool of 12 million USD (approx. 370 million TWD). 22-year-old Wu Chia-yen has already won two JLPGA titles and is participating in the US Women's Open for the first time. Chien Pei-yun qualified for the first time since 2019, having missed the cut in three of her previous four appearances. 15-year-old Lin Chieh-en is the youngest participant in this year's tournament.
