Huang Kuo-chang Pledges Full Support for Ko Chih-en in Kaohsiung Mayoral Race

KAOHSIUNG (CNA) - TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang stated today that the TPP will fully support KMT Kaohsiung mayoral candidate Ko Chih-en, promising concrete actions to back her campaign. Ko responded by expressing her gratitude, stating, 'Our goals are aligned.' The TPP held a forum on 'The State of Democracy and Judicial Reform' in Kaohsiung's Zuoying District today, attended by both Huang and Ko. Regarding the 'Blue-White' cooperation in Kaohsiung, Huang emphasized to the media that the TPP is committed to helping Ko win the mayoral seat. Huang praised Ko's professional and rational approach to policy, including her work on the Act Governing the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures, which increased Kaohsiung's funding. He added, 'The TPP will support Ko with very concrete actions; please stay tuned.' When asked about TPP members running as independents, Huang said the party follows its own procedures to select the best candidates for the 2026 local elections and respects those who choose to leave, wishing them success. Ko stated that opposition cooperation is essential to defeat the ruling party, especially in Kaohsiung, where the TPP's strength is needed. She thanked Huang for his support, noting that despite their different party affiliations, they can cooperate on many ideas. Ko also reiterated that the proposed fiscal law amendments are intended to better supervise resources, not reduce Kaohsiung's budget. She further revealed that Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, along with other KMT mayors like Hou Yu-ih, Chang San-cheng, and Lu Hsiu-yen, will join the campaign to support her.
